Douglasville, Ga. — After more than a decade in business, Ben’s Antiques & Market has shut its doors, leaving some vendors still waiting to receive their payments.
Closure and Financial Struggles
The business began winding down operations in March after becoming financially unsustainable, according to owner Ben Haverty. He attributed the closure to a significant financial setback after the landlord retracted part of the leased space.
Vendors Claim Unpaid Sales Revenue
Despite the store’s closure, several vendors who operated within the market allege they are still owed thousands of dollars in sales revenue. Multiple vendors report that checks issued by Ben’s Antiques in recent months have bounced due to insufficient funds.
Vendors Speak Out
Stained glass artist John Eachus claims he received more than $1,000 in bounced checks from the business. As of this week, he has recovered only $280 of the amount owed.
“The contract states that Mr. Haverty will provide us counter service and sales,” Eachus explained. “He will retain 10% of sales and issue payments every two weeks, ensuring vendors receive 90% of their proceeds.”
Owner Pledges Payment
Haverty expressed disappointment over the business’s failure but assured vendors that all outstanding payments would be settled by the end of April.
“I regret that we couldn’t keep the business going, but I am committed to ensuring that every vendor receives what they are owed,” Haverty told FOX 5 Atlanta.
