The Old Strathcona Antique Mall is on the market as its current owners prepare to step away after more than a decade of stewardship. However, customers can rest assured that the beloved institution will continue under new ownership.
Co-owner Bobbi Weibel announced that after 16 years at the helm, she is eager to spend more time with her family.
“My kids have always come second, and it’s time for me to put them first,” Weibel said.
Her mother and business partner, Betty Reitan, had long planned to retire after turning 65, a milestone she reached last year. Now, she looks forward to joining her husband in retirement.
Weibel and Reitan’s journey with the antique mall began when they were vendors at its former location, where United Sport & Cycle now operates.
“I was just finishing business school, and my mom said, ‘Hey, what do you think about running an antique store?’” Weibel recalled.
Initially envisioning a small-town shop, Weibel soon found herself managing a much larger enterprise. When the lease expired at the mall’s previous location, the duo purchased the business and sought a new space.
Their search proved challenging until United Cycle extended an unexpected opportunity.
“United Cycle actually approached us in February, just a month after we closed, and said, ‘What do you think about coming back to the Old Strathcona area?’” Weibel said.
Now, as the owners prepare to pass the torch, the Old Strathcona Antique Mall stands ready to continue its legacy under fresh leadership.
